Indo-U.S. singer-songwriter Subhi continues her pop diva avatar with a new Punjabi song “Intezaar,” whose music video features dancer and choreographer Eshani Patel.
The song comes out via Desi Trill, following Subhi’s previous pop turns including “Mumbai Magic” with singer-songwriters Natania and Shalmali, “Billo” and “Gulzar,” the latter two also with Natania. For “Intezaar,” Subhi teams up with Aman Moroney, who shares writing and producing credits.
There’s funk, pop and electronic influences on “Intezaar,” plus Patel brings energetic choreography to the video, all of which lives up to the hype that Desi Trill is not just a label, but also a movement and a sound, as described by founders Shabz Naqvi and Ty-Ty Smith.
Subhi says in a press release that “Intezaar” is a song very close to her heart. She adds in her statement, “I wrote it during a time when my partner and I were in a long distance relationship. I feel anyone who has gone through a long distance relationship will be able to relate to this song. Long distance love is never easy as it tests one’s commitment towards each other. But during such hard times if we are patient and give our love the leap of faith it needs, the wait is truly worth it. That’s what the song ‘Intezaar’ is all about. This is my first solo single release in Punjabi and I cannot wait for the world to hear it.”
The artist has steadily been moving into a more flamboyant persona compared to her previous understated singer-songwriter image and that comes to the front in the video. Subhi counts it as a pleasure to work with the likes of Patel as well. She adds, “When I was looking for a dancer to be a part of this music video, I was referred to Eshani by multiple sources. I am so grateful to have her onboard for this track. We had an amazing time shooting the music video and I love the contrast our collaboration brings. While my sections of the video are very settling and tell the tale of love, Eshani brings in the energy and movement which the beat demands.”
