A 31-year-old man from Clearwater River Dene Nation was fatally struck by an RCMP vehicle on a grid road early Thursday morning.
An RCMP news release issued Thursday afternoon said Buffalo Narrows RCMP were on their way from a prior call in Turnor Lake to Buffalo Narrows in response to another call for service when the incident happened around 3:30 a.m.
One of the responding officers was in a police vehicle on grid road 909, several kilometres from the Highway 155 intersection, when the police vehicle struck a pedestrian “who was on the grid road,” the release said.

“The officer, who was not physically injured, immediately called for an ambulance and provided first aid to the pedestrian until EMS arrived,” it added.
“The pedestrian was declared deceased by EMS at the scene.”
His name family has been notified. His name was not released.
RCMP also notified the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT), which will investigate the circumstances.
“The Saskatchewan RCMP is disclosing this as part of our ongoing commitment to transparency,” the release said.
“Any inquiries regarding this matter can be directed to SIRT, which will be providing further updates as their investigation unfolds.”
