The foreboding text reads: “I look in the mirror and feel both old and new, stuck in limbo and unable to move. I still haven’t faced myself. More songs could help, but what do I have left to say? Woe is me in my gilded cage, right? The very thing that once made me invincible failed me on the world stage. A new trauma surfaced, opening floodgates… when today ends, I’ll discover who I am.“
The Weeknd shared a series of self-referential missives and mirage-like filmic teasers last month, alluding to the themes of his last two works whilst teasing a new audio-visual component to the culmination of this trilogy.
In an interview Variety last year, The Weeknd shared that he was in the final throes of finishing of his new album. “The name of it will come out soon,” he teased. “It’s not called what some fans think it’s called… what they think it’s called is actually a song on the album, but that’s not what the actual album is called. [It’s unclear which speculative title he’s referring to.] So I’m just gonna say that.”
Alongside the new album campaign, The Weeknd is opening his Halloween Horror Nights experience at Universal Studios, promising fans a chilling and immersive experience running until November 3rd.
The Weeknd will also perform a one-of-a-kind concert experience in São Paulo this Saturday. The performance will be live-streamed on YouTube from the Estádio Morumbi, following a record-breaking two-year global tour. The singer will donate 10% of net proceeds from all merchandise sales at the event and online to the Brazilian Soul Fund of BrazilFoundation, supporting communities affected by natural disasters and economic hardships in southern Brazil.
