Kate Middleton announced her cancer treatment has come to an end, leaving Piers Morgan delighted. In an emotional video, the Princess of Wales, shared her plans to return to royal duties, undertaking a “light programme” of public engagements over the coming months.
The three-minute video features the 42-year-old alongside Prince William and their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis in Norfolk. The mum-of-three explained that her main focus is to remain cancer free and admitted that the last nine months were a “scary and unpredictable” time for her family.
Resharing the video on his X page, Piers wrote: “Wow.. what an incredibly moving, powerful and inspiring little film. So glad to hear you’re through chemo, Your Royal Highness, best of luck with your continued recovery, and congrats on speaking about this so openly and honestly.”
The 59-year-old added: “It will save lives.” However, Piers was less than impressed following the announcement of a new Netflix documentary from Archewell Productions, the company founded by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2020.
The official Netflix account shared: “POLO is a new documentary series that follows elite global players and offers an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at the fast-paced world of the sport. From Archewell Productions and Boardwalk Pictures. Premiering this December.”
Piers pointed out how the teaser for Harry and Meghan’s latest project dropped just hours after Kate’s intimate cancer video. He wrote: “Posted 90 minutes after Kensington Palace released the new Kate video..,” complete with a confused face emoji. There is no evidence to suggest the timing of the Netflix documentary announcement was planned around Kate’s video.
While Piers and others have suggested the couple are trying to steal the spotlight from the princess, royal correspondent Kinsey Schofield believes it was simply bad timing. “I think it’s the worst possible coincidence,” she told GB News presenters Isabel Webster and Ben Leo.
She continued: “I think that if Netflix‘s PR team were as good as they’re paid to be, knowing that Harry and Meghan got $100,000 for their deal, they should have seen that video and known that it was time to pull that information and release it at a different date.
“I felt like it looked very vulgar and opportunistic to release it after such a compelling and intimate message from the Princess of Wales.”
When Ben said a number of people believe the announcement was put out at that time deliberately, Kinsey responded: “I understand why a lot of people do feel that way because we have seen one-upmanship from Harry and Meghan in the past.
“For instance, when the Princess of Wales announced, and thrilled us all, that she was going to be at Trooping the Colour within hours, one of Meghan and Harry’s friends posted her dog biscuits on Instagram and then it blew up.”
She added: “There are definite examples where it feels like Harry and Meghan are trying to steal the spotlight. It’s unfortunate. It’s especially unfortunate when this is such a beautiful video.”
