Dascha Polanco has opened up about becoming a grandmother at the age of 40, insisting that she’s ‘still fly’.
The actress, most known for her stint in Netflix drama Orange Is The New Black, stunned fans last year after revealing that her daughter, Dasany Gonzalez, was set to welcome a child.
After the arrival of baby Dior in October, the 41-year-old has settled into her new role of grandma with ease, branding the new arrival a ‘blessing’.
‘I’m sure I’m not the first or the last. There’s younger grandmas than me, but I’m still here, I’m still fly,’ she said.
‘I’m enjoying him. He’s amazing. He’s a model. Dior, he’s modeling and he’s just a blessing.’
Shedding light on her favorite things to do with the little one, Dascha continued to People Magazine: ‘To eat him up, gobble him up, change him, get him dressed, make him laugh.
‘I enjoy really being able to experience the milestones, but I’d love to take him to a museum. I love to stimulate him that way.’
Last September, the Samaritan actress confirmed that her daughter was set to welcome her first child with a sweet post on Instagram.
Alongside a snap showing her cradling Dasany’s baby bump, she simply told fans: ‘I just got a promotion.’
Dasany gave birth to the tot in October and shared the first photo of her son on social media the following month, with the message: ‘Thank you God for blessing me with my bestfriend. My heart really needed you son.
‘You’re the best thing that ever happened to me. You stole my heart. I love you so much. My baby boy.’
Dascha made a name for herself on Orange Is The New Black, starring as Dayanara Diaz across all seven seasons, opposite Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon, Danielle Brooks, Natasha Lyonne and Taryn Manning.
She then went on to appear in Russian Doll, When They See Us, Poker Face and the Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.
The In The Heights star became a mother for the first time at the age of 17, with Dasany, before welcoming her son Aryam when she was 25.
‘Of course, there are certain things I wish I could’ve done differently,’ she told Parents Magazine of having a child as a teenager.
‘I would’ve put my daughter in sports or sent her away to camp. But I was on food stamps, and those things weren’t financially available to me at the time. I constantly have to remind myself to let that go.’
‘I set boundaries,’ she continued. ‘It’s okay to make mistakes. Every mother is just raising her kids to the best of her ability, and the more time passes, the more you learn that.’
‘I’m going to continue to work as a mother and grow as a mother,’ she added. ‘I’m going to kill it as a mother, and I’m going to be a sexy-ass mami too. I’m going to be true to me.’
