- The Backbone One controller will be compatible with the upcoming iPhone 16
- As showcased at the recent Apple event, you’ll be able to take advantage of all the controller’s features on the iPhone 16
- It’s an important step in Apple’s continued attempts to recast their gaming identity
The Backbone One game controller will feature compatibility with the upcoming iPhone 16 as part of its second generation iteration, it has been announced. The Apple Event is a yearly showcase that gives Apple fans and tech heads alike a glimpse of what’s coming in the next few months.
While it’s obviously a big marketing move for Backbone, it is worth noting that it’s just one part of Apple’s overall move to push gaming as a major part of their identity. The release of Resident Evil 7 and 8 (or Village) as well as Assassin’s Creed Mirage onto iPhone has been a major point of publicity despite lacklustre sales.
You can check out what we thought of the Backbone One when it was first released, including our one big gripe. But for those wanting to use the iPhone to play some of these releases, the Backbone may become their go-to choice thanks to this inclusion.
Only on iPhone
I mentioned in my little opinion piece the fact that the controls for Resident Evil 7 have made it a bit of a laughing stock when it comes to the iPhone port. And I reckon that this is part of why Apple is eager to push the option of a controller in its marketing. It basically says, “Here, if you’re serious about gaming, why not try this?”
At the same time, I’m wondering just when Apple will take the plunge and produce their own.
Still, if you haven’t got the luxury of a Backbone controller, or just want to play one of the many games already on offer why not check out our list of the best mobile games of 2024 (so far)?
