The Marshall County Commission met last week for their regularly scheduled meeting and asked County Attorney Clint Maze to open with prayer as they recognized the date of September 11.
“I imagine everyone here is like me and can remember where they were when the planes hit the Trade Center,” said Marshall County Chairman, James Hutcheson. “A tragedy.”
As the meeting progressed commission spoke about the entering into a construction contract with Willoughby Roofing and Sheet Metal for the Guntersville Courthouse for gutter, face metal and soffit repair.
The total cost will be $86,750 to be paid out of Courthouse and Jail Funds in the FY2025 budget.
“It was $145,000 to begin with and anything over $100,000 we have to go out for bid but since then we have had a quote for $86,000,” continued Chairman Hutcheson.
“That sounds pretty reasonable.”
The company the county is using has done county work before including putting the roof on the Council on Aging building. There will be a 20-year warranty on the gutters.
“As everybody knows we’ve had a lot of pigeons on the roof of the building for a number of years and we have a lot of rusty spots in them. All the gutters around the whole building need to be replaced, should have been replaced 10 years ago if we had the money.”
