Gangsters, smuggling, and whisky — it’s a Windsor tradition.
Windsor will return to the Roaring ‘20s on Friday with Barrels and Bites: An Evening of Whisky, Talks, and Tastings at the Chimczuk Museum.
The night celebrating Windsor’s illicit history of keeping the continent lubricated through the dark days of Prohibition will include a jumping jazz band, artifacts pulled from the depths of the Detroit River and, of course, whisky samples.

A centrepiece of the evening will be the museum exhibit Beyond the Barrel: Windsor’s Whisky History.
“The exhibit does have a heavy focus on Prohibition, just because that is something the public has always been really interested in and it’s a huge part of our history,” said exhibit curator Nicole Chittle. “We do have a lot of artifacts related to Prohibition.”
The ticket includes admission to the Chimczuk Museum and all associated exhibitions, three samples of locally distilled J.P. Wiser whiskies, an exclusive talk by Master Blender Don Livermore, and an exhibition tour led by Chittle.
Local diver Matt Zuidema will also give a presentation called Under the Surface about his Prohibition finds in the Detroit River and experiences filming with the National Geographic series Drain the Oceans.
The museum exhibition includes artifacts Zuidema pulled from a Prohibition-era vehicle he found at the bottom of the Detroit River.
There will also be the option of buying tasting plates curated by The Cheese Bar to pair with whisky selections.
Guests are encouraged — but not required — to embrace the Roaring ‘20s glamour by arriving in costume. Anyone who shows up dressed up will be entered into a prize draw.
Tickets to the 19-and-up event are $20 per person and include three ballots for a raffle prize. They’re running low but while they’re still available, you can purchase tickets by calling 519-253-1812 or going to the Chimczuk Museum at 401 Riverside Dr. W.
