While making an arrest in connection to a theft at a local business, Windsor police also recovered a vehicle reported stolen last week.
Members of Windsor Police Service responded to a report of theft at a business located in the 1800 block of Provincial Road shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Thursday.
When officers arrived at the location, they found the male suspect seated in the driver’s seat of a blue 2016 Jeep Patriot. When officers approached the vehicle, the suspect tried to escape on foot.

Windsor police said the suspect was apprehended following a short chase.
Police recovered items the suspect was accused of stealing from the store.
Further investigation revealed that the Jeep Patriot, carrying a license plate assigned to a different vehicle, had been reported stolen in Leamington last week.
The stolen vehicle was returned to its owner.
Windsor police advise taking several precautions to safeguard against auto theft. Recommended steps include parking your vehicle or motorcycle in a garage or well-lit area, using a steering wheel of pedal lock, and installing outdoor security cameras. Officers also suggest to avoid leaving keys in an unattended vehicle, using a Faraday bag to prevent key fob cloning, and investing in an alarm system or GPS tracking device.

Windsor police established the auto theft unit in early March thanks to a $900,000 provincial grant to help combat a surge in vehicle thefts.
Windsor and Amherstburg saw 774 vehicle thefts or attempted thefts in 2023, averaging more than two per day, or a 7.4 per cent increase from the previous year.
