The South American-inspired folk rockers — and self-proclaimed “dance party specialists” — are joined by Regina’s Hutsul Drive, a Ukrainian party band that will kick off the evening’s “cultural dance-off.”
The Suns have twice been named global/world artist of the year at the Western Canadian Music Awards.
Their new EP is “a collection of live-off-the-floor jams blending psychedelic cumbia, calypso, and Andean folk,” says a preview on the venue’s website. “Kicking off this new chapter, Tio Juanito’s is a tribute to the salt-of-the-earth man who opened his basement to us nearly 15 years ago, and where we’ve been creating music ever since.”

The band is collaborating with “world-class theatrical set and lighting designers to create a harmonious blend of sound and sight.” It features 10 original compositions by the Fretless, including three tracks co-written and performed with Madeleine Roger, who’s an accomplished folk singer-songwriter from Winnipeg.
“The Glasswing Tour marks a new chapter in their decade-long musical evolution, bringing their renowned signature sound to new heights in a stunning visual and musical showcase,” says a news release.
Meanwhile, on Friday night at Darke Hall, Horizons Baroque presents Viva Italia — a special presentation of “Italian music from another age, performed by Regina’s finest musicians.”
Christian Robinson (violin), Marie-Noelle Berthelet (flute), Valerie Hall (harpsichord), and Simon Fryer (cello) join forces to present the music of classic Italian composers like Corelli, Castello, Turini, Merula, Gabrieli, and Geminiani.
