As families throughout Windsor-Essex gather to celebrate Thanksgiving this weekend, the region offers a variety of fall activities to enjoy.
The Downtown Farmers’ Market in Windsor will feature a variety of vendors for Harvest Fest on Saturday. The event, which aims to bring the celebration of the fall season to life, runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Pelissier Street between Wyandotte Street and Park Street.

Pepe’s Pumpkin Patch in LaSalle is welcoming families this weekend with a host of activities, from hayrides and pumpkin picking to face painting and a corn maze. The patch is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
Thiessen Apple Orchard in Leamington is among area orchards offering the public the opportunity to pick their own fresh apples. General admission activities include a corn maze, putt-putt-gold, farm friends and a haunted barn for an additional cost.
Other popular local apple-picking destinations — Meleg’s Lakeview Orchard and Cider Mill in Kingsville, Wagner Orchards and Estate Winery in Lakeshore, and Kennette Orchard in Essex.
Families can also celebrate Thanksgiving at Leamington Raceway on Sunday for a special day of harness racing and holiday activities. In addition to action on the track, the raceway hosts Thanksgiving-themed activities for all ages starting at 1 p.m.
The City of Windsor administrative offices will be closed on Monday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The 311 customer contact centre will also be closed.
There will be no city residential garbage and recycling collection services on Monday. Residential garbage, yard waste and recycling collection services will be delayed by one day.
All library locations will be closed on Sunday and Monday to celebrate the holiday.
Transit Windsor buses will operate on the Sunday/holiday schedule on Monday.
