Former Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzic is one of the names being considered by Manchester United to replace under-fire boss Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman is hanging onto his job in charge at Old Trafford but is under ever-increasing pressure after a nightmare start to his third season with the Red Devils.
Sitting 14th in the Premier League table after seven games which have produced just two wins and five goals scored, things are looking pretty bleak for Ten Hag and he could seemingly be dismissed whenever the next bad result comes.
The former Ajax boss has survived the current international break, with Manchester United next hosting Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday before travelling to meet Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in the Europa League next Thursday.
If the United hierarchy swing the axe on Ten Hag then there are a number of names in the frame to replace him.
The leading candidates are Ruud van Nistelrooy and Thomas Tuchel, while Gareth Southgate and Michael Carrick are all being considered as well, according to reports.
Another potential appointment is Terzic, according to The Sun, with the 41-year-old out of work after leaving Dortmund for the second time at the end of last season.
Terzic worked as a coach as early as 2010 at Dortmund and returned to the club in 2018 after spells working with Slaven Bilic at Besiktas and West Ham.
From there he became interim manager in 2020, winning the DFB Pokal the following year before taking up a job as technical director, then becoming permanent manager in 2022.
Dortmund narrowly missed out on the Bundesliga title in 2023 and then lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid earlier this year before Terzic stepped down as manager.
Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, currently on loan at Chelsea after a six-month stint at Dortmund last season, had kind words for Terzic after their spell together in Germany.
‘Thank you for trusting me, forever grateful,’ he posted on social media. ‘I wish you the best of luck on your next chapter @edinterzic11.’
