Romy is the fourth face of CLASH 129.
A pivotal figure in British music, Romy turned solo with her exceptional album ‘Mid Air’. A work of dancefloor transcendence, she looked to her own life as inspiration, praising queer spaces as sites of abandon, but also transformation.

Infatuated with these arenas of evolution, Romy took the album on the road this year, with her incredible Club Mid Air experiences acting as a conduit between artist and fans. CLASH caught Romy in East London, before following her to Ibiza with White Claw Refreshing Sounds as she communed with the rabid Balearic crowds.
After our sunrise photo session captured by her wife Vic Lentaigne, Romy took time out to speak to CLASH, looking back to her formative years, and unpicking the vulnerabilities of ‘Mid Air’, before peering into a daring, bright future, in one of her most honest and revealing conversations yet.
As she puts it: “Being a lot more open about my sexuality, and wanting to be more connected and supportive of the LGBT+ community, that was important to me, to be more visible.”

But that’s not all. Between these pages you’ll experience the pop pedigree of JADE, raid the musical archives with elder statesmen Bryan Ferry, and be introduced to trailblazer Kai-Isaiah Jamal and their new musical alias Kissin’ Teef. You’ll encounter the triumphant origin story of Thee Sacred Souls, the boundary-less jazz of Nubya Garcia, and the anthemic electronics of TSHA. You’ll also absorb life lessons from Bashy, become exposed to the searing truth of Jeshi, and much more.
