Raftaar and Ikka Singh opened up on their rap styles and journey, where the former said he would love to make a Malayalam rap.
MTV Hustle is back with a new season, bringing together the country’s promising and aspiring rappers and beatmakers. Going by the talent of previous contestants, fans are excited to be blown away by the raw energy and lyrical prowess of the current season’s artists. Talented rappers Raftaar and Ikka Singh have taken on the role of judges in the new season. Recently, the two opened up on their rap styles and journey during an interview, where Raftaar said he would love to make a Malayalam rap.
Answering whether he has any plans to create a Malayali rap song, Raftaar said, “I would love to,” during a conversation with Pinkvilla. He went on to add, “Kacha pakka toh mai kar hi sakta hu. Par mai uss chiz ko utna attempt nahi karta kyuki mai poetic nahi hu Malayalam mein. Jaise Hindi mei muje ek hi chiz ke 10 naam pata hai. Par Malayalam mei muje bohot basic aate hai. Mera art form, I am known to be very metaphoric. I love making metaphors (I can do a bit. But I don’t attempt rapping in Malayali much because I am not poetic in Malayalam. Like in Hindi, I know 10 synonyms of one word. But in the case of Malayalam, I only know basic).”
Hearing this, rapper Ikka Singh hyped Raftaar, saying, “Raftaar is a Malayali but sings Haryanvi rap. He is a killer.”
For those unfamiliar, Raftaar is a Malayali and was born in Trivandrum, Kerala. While he has delivered several hits over the years, he has not sung a Malayali rap. The rapper has also appeared on several reality shows such as Roadies Xtreme, Roadies: Real Heroes and Dance India Dance Battle Of The Champion, among others.
Raftaar and Ikka Singh also discussed other rappers in the industry such as Yo Yo Honey Singh, Badshah, Divine, Dino James, Raja Kumari and more. The two artists shared their views on other topics such as artist safety, aggression in rap songs, tips for new rappers, and a lot more.
Hustle 4, the rap show premiered on October 19, and fresh episodes air every Saturday and Sunday at 9 PM on MTV. Audiences can also watch it anytime on Jio Cinema.
