The Dakshina Kannada district unit of Karnataka Home Guards celebrated the Home Guards Raising Day in Mangaluru on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dakshina Kannada Additional Deputy Commissioner G. Santosh Kumar said, “People in uniform look different from others. They should develop a good relationship with the general public.” Congratulating the Home Guards for their service to society in protecting people and property, Mr. Kumar urged them to discharge their duty with dedication and honesty.
Additional Superintendent of Police D. Rajendra told the guards that their children could join uniformed services in the coming days after being inspired their parents. He commended them for their social services besides saving the lives and property of people. There was need for more people to join the home guards, he said.
Home Guards District Commandant Muralee Mohana Choontharu said the Dakshina Kannada unit began functioning in 1963. He had completed 10 years as the Commandant. People in Dakshina Kannada were service-minded, he said, congratulating the guards for their dedicated service. The force has plans to provide advanced training to home guards personnel in the coming days, he added.
On the occasion, Home Guards Chacko from Belthangady, Udayashankara Bhat from Kadaba, Sukhitha A. Shetty from Uppinangady and Khalid from Ullal were felicitated for their service.
Mangaluru unit officer Mark Shera and others were present. Unit officers and personnel from the units in the district attended the programme.
