The Toronto Blue Jays are turning to a familiar face to fill a hole in their bullpen.
On Tuesday afternoon, Toronto agreed to a two-year, $15 million contract with right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia, Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith and Shi Davidi confirmed.
The deal is pending a physical.
Ari Alexander first reported the news.
Garcia was Toronto’s most reliable bullpen arm through the first half of the 2024 season before being traded to the Seattle Mariners for outfielder Jonatan Clase and catcher Jacob Sharp ahead of the trade deadline.
The 34-year-old only threw nine innings in Seattle before being shut down with a season-ending elbow injury. Between the two clubs, Garcia posted a 3.46 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 39 innings. He also recorded five saves for the Blue Jays.
Garcia originally signed with the Blue Jays as a free agent ahead of the 2022 season. Over 163 career appearances with the team, the Dominican has a 3.44 ERA, nine saves, 179 strikeouts, 39 walks and 157 innings pitched.
