Destiny 2‘s upcoming expansion, The Final Shape, is going to be a big one, and is already expected to bring major changes to the game. Fans have no doubt been eagerly awaiting for a full breakdown on what Bungie has in store for it and the answer is… a lot. In fact, Bungie has decided to put together three separate previews for The Final Shape because there’s simply too many changes to cover all at once.
The Destiny 2 Team Twitter account recently explained how it’s preparing a preview article on abilities and armour tuning for The Final Shape. However, it wound up coming at around a whopping 9,000 words, making it one of the largest articles Bungie has ever written for Destiny 2. Since that’s clearly too much to drop on players, Bungie is splitting it up.
The first preview is dropping later today on May 22 at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST, and will focus on ability tuning for all the Light and Darkness subclasses. The second preview, which is for Exotic Armour tuning, will drop at the same time on Thursday, May 23, and that will be followed an hour later by a This Week in Destiny update at the usual time of 11 am PT / 2pm ET / 7pm BST. This all sounds rather overwhelming, but also very exciting, though some players will probably come away unhappy depending on what gets buffed or nerfed.
While there’s no telling how these previews will be received, early responses to The Final Shape seem overall positive. The new Prismatic subclass alone is worth being excited for, since it allows you to mix and match abilities from other subclasses, alongside a new and improved weapon enhancement system. Plus, after how rough things have been for Destiny 2 in the last 12 months or so, including the layoffs within Bungie, things seem to have steadily improved considering the community has settled down as of late, probably thanks to the free Into the Light DLC.
However, The Final Shape is no less an important milestone for Destiny 2 since it will be concluding the Light and Darkness story arc that began back in the first Destiny. Even if it proves massively popular at launch, it will then need to maintain that popularity with a solid post-launch schedule of content and updates. As such, the future beyond The Final Shape is incredibly murky.
