Re: OC Transpo needs $36M lifeline, Sutcliffe says, Dec. 27
Why is Mayor Mark Sutcliffe denying the obvious? The beleaguered federal Liberal government has clearly indicated that its transportation financial support for Ottawa is committed to a sixth bridge connecting Ottawa and Gatineau and a Gatineau tramway linking the two cities. There is no federal money for operating deficits at OC Transpo, and Ontario support is conditional on federal funding.
A fiscally responsible mayor and council would accept this reality and address this very serious financial shortfall now. Ridership and operating efficiencies are suspect. It will only get worse as an inefficient and ineffective transit system moves further into the budget year.

All options should be on the table. Why proceed with the purchase of e-buses at $1.4-million a pop and with a history of unreliable winter service? Two 40-foot, clean diesel buses could be purchased for the same price while improving reliability and service frequency.
To the mayor and council, face this disastrous fiscal and operating reality now.

FAR FROM MR. WONDERFUL
Re: Kevin O’Leary says he wants to talk to Trump about a U.S.-Canada ‘economic union,’ online, Dec. 27
I’ve got news for part-time Canadian Kevin O’Leary, living in Miami Beach.
Unlike Grand Funk Railroad’s song, O’Leary’s “not” Some kind of Wonderful, let alone Mr. Wonderful, and secondly, half of Canadians weren’t talking about combining the U.S. and Canada economies and erasing the border between Canada and the United States over the holidays. We just weren’t.

WE’LL BE DANCING IN THE STREETS
Re: Conservatives planning late-January non-confidence vote, online, Dec. 27
I would like to thank Pierre Poilievre for once again trying to rescue Canadians from Justin Trudeau with an upcoming non-confidence vote as early as Jan. 30. If this is the day the Justin Trudeau government falls, Canadians will be dancing in the streets with joy!
When this momentous day happens, when Canadians are “liberated” from the Liberals, it should be declared a national holiday that we could call Trudeau Vanquished Day, or TV Day.
Canadians could celebrate this special day by staying home, relaxing, watching TV, eating fun foods and experiencing joy (the opposite of what Trudeau gave us, including stress, unhappiness and the requirement to work more).
I can’t wait for our first “Trudeau Vanquished Day” to begin!
