Gemma Atkinson has broken her silence on a frequently asked question about her relationship with fiancé Gorka Marquez. While discussing her hit Bauer Media podcast, , at The Podcast Show festival in London, the star took the opportunity to get candid about her own personal life.
The former Hollyoaks and Emmerdale actress admitted during a Q&A session that fans are often baffled by how she and Gorka make their family life work, as they often have to spend weeks apart – due to the Strictly star’s dance career taking him all over the world.
Gemma confessed: “I get asked a lot about my fella, Gorka – he works away a lot, and people ask – ‘how does that work?’ And I think that’s why it works. It’s either out of sight, out of mind, or absence makes the heart grow fonder!”
“I get asked a lot, ‘how do you do that on your own with the kids?’ But it’s all we’ve ever known in our relationship, and I think, ‘How do you cope living with them 24/7 and seeing them all the time?’
“So I think swapping stories shows how each different family makes their circumstances work,” the mum-of-two explained.
The soap star told the audience she feels comfortable opening up about her experiences to her podcast listeners, as she encourages them to share their own stories as part of the show.
The Overshare sees Gemma and her guests revealing their secrets, while being joined by experts who assist in making sense of some of the curve balls life can bring.
Gemma, 39, juggles recording the podcast with hosting her Hits Radio show, and looking after her and Gorka’s two young children; daughter Mia, four, and baby son Thiago, who was born in July last year.
Gorka is currently away from home performing on the Strictly Come Dancing – The Professionals Tour.
He previously had to spend even more time apart from Gemma and their little ones when he took on a judging role on the Spanish version of Strictly Come Dancing earlier this year.
The couple, who got engaged in 2021, have been dating since 2018 after meeting on Strictly Come Dancing one year prior. At the time, Gorka had been dancing with Alexandra Burke, while Gemma danced with Aljaz Skorjanec.
