Naomi Campbell has revealed that her children were born via a surrogate after years of speculation.
The supermodel, 54, shocked the world in 2021 when she announced that she had a newborn daughter, having not shared any prior announcements that she was expecting.
The star then revealed in June last year that she had a second child, a son who was born when she was 53.
Her daughter is now three and her son is one, but over the years there has been speculation about whether she welcomed them via surrogacy or adoption.
When asked about motherhood by The Times in a recent interview, the model called herself ‘a single mother of a single mum.’
When asked if she had a surrogate she replied: ‘I did.’
Speaking to British Vogue in February 2022, the model posed with her daughter for a cover shoot, and confirmed: ‘She wasn’t adopted – she’s my child.’
In the same interview, she revealed she kept her daughter’s upcoming birth a secret. ‘I can count on one hand the number of people who knew that I was having her,’ she said.
‘But she is the biggest blessing I could ever imagine. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done.’
Since having her children, the model has shared rare life updates. In 2022 she shared some sweet snaps of their trip to the Maldives. She also shared rare snaps on Mother’s Day of herself with her daughter.
In the interview with The Times, Naomi spoke about her hopes for her children, saying: ‘I hope for a better world for my children. They are 110% my priority. I have to be there for them on their first day at school.’
She then spoke about her desire to have her children and how motherhood is ‘so worth’ the financial stress.
‘I have heard a lot of young girls saying that it is too expensive to have children and they may not want them, and I have said, “You will change your mind. You will want to be a mum.”
‘I understand economically it is tough. But my mum had nothing and she made it work. It’s worth it. It is so amazing,’ she said.
She also revealed she had fears for her children’s future. ‘My babies are everything to me. It’s made me fear for the future,’ she said.
‘We have to depend on the younger generation to change this world,’ she added, and proudly stated that her children are up to the task. ‘I trust my children more than us to do the right thing.’
