Chennai, June 12, 2024: A 31-year-old lawyer, identified as Gowtham from Avvai Nagar in Thiruvanmiyur, was brutally hacked to death by three men on a busy street in Thiruvanmiyur on Tuesday evening. Police arrested N Kamalesh (27), M Nithyanandam (27), and K Parthiban (31) from Kannagi Nagar and Kottivakkam in connection with the murder the following day.
Gowtham, who practiced at the Saidapet court, was returning home on his two-wheeler when he stopped at an ATM near his residence. While talking to friends, a gang armed with knives attacked him. Despite attempting to flee, Gowtham was chased down and hacked by the trio. The attackers fled as a crowd gathered. Passersby rushed the injured lawyer to a nearby private hospital, but despite intensive treatment, he succumbed to his injuries.
Thiruvanmiyur police conducted an on-site investigation, and Gowtham’s body was later transferred to Royappetah Government Hospital for a postmortem. Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother, B Aswin Babu, police arrested Kamalesh, Nithyanandam, and Parthiban.
According to police sources, a prior altercation between Kamalesh and Gowtham’s friend, Madhankumar, might have motivated the murder. Gowtham had allegedly threatened Kamalesh after the previous incident, leading to the fatal attack, police suggested.
