Saints coach Ross Lyon has made fun out of calls this week that his coaching tactics make the game ugly following his side’s hard-to-watch clash with Gold Coast last round.
Lyon was asked on Fox Footy about the claims and he went for the laughs while dragging his former Sydney Swans coaching teammates Paul Roos and John Longmire into the discussion in the early 2000s.

“It sits pretty good. Me and Roosy opened a bottle of red [wine] in 2005 and said “how can we destroy the game and win a flag?“,” Lyon quipped.
“We did that with Johnny Longmire so that worked OK.
“It’s all theatre isn’t it. I’ve moved on to focus on Brisbane [tonight]. It’s all good.
“It just gets the clicks happening.”
Lyon has repeatedly pointed out that the Saints had 56 inside 50s last week but couldn’t convert them into goals due to poor kicking and decision-making.
“We have struggled in the front half all year,” Lyon said.
“Just the connection piece with our forwards, we left a lot on the table.
“It’s our centre-forward use and taking the responsibility to kick the goal.”
