Warning: This story contains spoilers from “Inside Out 2”
Emotions are high as “Inside Out 2” hits the big screen.
Disney and Pixar’s sequel to “Inside Out” is officially out as of June 14, and it explores the next chapter of protagonist Riley Andersen’s journey to adulthood. It’s been nearly a decade since the first film dropped, and the new and returning emotions, voiced by a star-studded cast, take center stage.
The film’s runtime is 1 hour and 36 minutes, according to IMDb, but with Pixar being known to deliver memorable end credits, fans might be wondering: Should stick around for a few extra minutes?
Here’s everything you need to know about possible “Inside Out 2” end credits.
Is there an end credit scene in ‘Inside Out 2’?
The short answer is yes, but there isn’t just one bonus scene after the movie wraps.
As the credits start to roll, a scene with Riley and her parents at the kitchen dinner plays out. Then, after the credits wrap, viewers are treated to an end credit scene with one of the sequel’s new characters.
So if you’re an “Inside Out” fan and have a few extra minutes to spare, it’s worth sticking around.
What happens in the end credit scene in ‘Inside Out 2’? In the film, Riley attends hockey camp ahead of starting high school. As the credits begin to roll, Riley and her parents sit down at the kitchen table after she returns home, and are seen catching up.
“Riley, how was camp?” her mom asks. Riley cooly responds, “It was good,” thanks to Ennui, the new emotion who projects consistent boredom.
The short response prompts a zoom-in into the mind of Riley’s mom, showing her own emotions in disbelief.
“She goes away for three days, and all we get is ‘good’?” Riley’s mom’s Anger exclaims.
Then, the scene switches to Riley’s dad’s mind, with the five original emotions (Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear) joined by one of the sequel’s new emotions, Anxiety.
Riley’s dad’s Anxiety repeats the same statement posed by Anger in Riley’s mom’s mind. However, her dad’s Anger simply respond with: “Yeah, sounds right. Back to the game.”
For those who don’t want to wait to see the scene in theaters, they’re in luck as a large chunk of the moment occurs at the top of the film’s final trailer shared June 4.
But for those who do see the movie on the big screen, a never-before-seen scene unfolds after the credits.
Earlier on in the film, viewers meet Deep Dark Secret, who exists inside the Vault that contains Riley’s secrets. Just like their name suggests, this character, dressed in a cloak with a hood, represents a secret of Riley’s that remains a mystery — until now.
Joy is seen returning to the Vault and opening its door, saying, “OK, Deep Dark Secret, it’s time.”
The large, hooded character hesitantly emerges from the Vault, followed by Joy asking them to finally reveal Riley’s secret.
After letting out a large sigh, Deep Dark Secret says, “We burn hole in rug.” The incident isn’t included in either “Inside Out,” but clearly Riley once burned a hole in the family’s rug and still feel shame.
Joy responds with relief, mentioning she thought Deep Dark Secret was going to bring up the time Riley peed in the pool. Deep Dark Secret fearfully responds to the thought of that memory, backs away and retreats back into the Vault.
