RUTHERFORD COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – A Rutherford County woman was arrested in June on charges of insurance fraud.
N.C. Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced the arrest of 38-year-old Ashley Lowery of Union Mills.
Special agents with the NC Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division (NCDOI) report that Lowery tried to defraud Progressive Insurance Company. The agents said Lowery issued false statements about a crash to collect automobile insurance.
The arrest warrant said Lowery made oral statements to the insurers on Jan. 10, 2023.
“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said in response to the arrest. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
You can report a fraud attempt anonymously by calling the N.C. Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Division at 919-807-6840 or toll free from anywhere in North Carolina at 888-680-7684.
