Jammu and Kashmir, India – Four Indian Army soldiers, including an officer, were killed in action during an encounter with terrorists in the Desa area of Doda district on Monday. The joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the region.
The Army established contact with the terrorists around 9 pm, leading to a heavy exchange of fire. “Initial reports suggest injuries to our bravehearts,” the Army posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday night. Officials confirmed that at least five soldiers were critically injured in the firefight.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has reportedly spoken with the Indian Army chief, General Upendra Dwivedi, to assess the ground situation and ongoing operations in Doda. This incident marks the second major encounter in the Jammu region within a week, following the deaths of five soldiers in Kathua.
In last week’s attack, terrorists executed a coordinated strike on two trucks carrying at least 12 troops. The terrorists targeted the trucks, positioned 500 meters apart, using grenades, armor-piercing bullets, and an M4 assault rifle.
Terrorist activities, which initially began in Poonch and Rajouri districts, have now spread throughout the Jammu region, an area that had been largely free from terrorism in recent years. Over the past 32 months, 48 soldiers have been killed in action in Jammu. Reports indicate that over 60 foreign terrorists, trained in jungle warfare, may be operating in the region, causing fear to spread across all 10 districts.
Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed the Army to deploy the full spectrum of its anti-terrorist capabilities to eliminate terrorism in the Jammu region. The security situation remains tense as forces continue their efforts to combat the rising threat.
